Dreams that Money Can Buy

Surrealist painter and Dada film-theorist Hans Richter wrote, produced, and directed the experimental exercise Dreams That Money Can Buy, one of the most significant contributions to the 20th-century "avant garde" movement. The project began in 1944, while Richter was director of the Institute of Film Techniques at City College in New York. Combining short scenarios written by such world-renowned artists as Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamps, Man Ray, Alexander Calder and Fernand Leger, Richter came up with a full-color, feature-length study in dreamlike "wish fulfillment." The film's only nod to continuity is the presence of a self-styled heavenly psychiatrist, whose patients purportedly visualize the images which play across the screen.



Described by one observer as "surreal yet somewhat Jungian," Dreams That Money Can Buy cost $25,000 and was three years in the making (Richter liked to take his time: his later Dadascope took five years!) Its New York premiere was greeted with a mixture of bravos and bewilderment, especially when the projectionist elected to show the film on the wall and ceiling rather than the screen. One assumes that the projectionist was less capricious when Dreams That Money Can Buy won a special prize at the 1947 Venice Film Festival. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Student Is Billionaire Overnight

A student from Moldova has shot up the country's rich list after inheriting nearly a billion euros from a long-lost relative.

Sergey Sudev was left the 950 million euro fortune by an uncle he had not seen for 10 years.

But he must have made a good impression at their last meeting a decade ago, according to Russia Today.

It prompted the uncle, who lived in Germany, to write Sudev into his will straight away.

The student had no idea he stood to inherit a fortune and got on with his course in journalism.

Then one day there was a knock at his door in the town of Komrat - his uncle's agents had tracked him down to pass on the incredible news.

A shocked Sudev is reported to have said to them: "Is this a joke?"

The inheritance means he has become one of the richest men in Moldova, where the average monthly salary is around 270 euros.

Despite his new wealthy status, Sudev intends to complete his journalism studies.

But he's already spending much of his time fending off people asking for loans.

Ren and Stimpy - Extreme cartoon

The Ren & Stimpy Show show is one of the five cartoon shows (collectively known as the 'Nicktoons', produced by Nickelodeon, a cable TV channel in North America. The two main characters are an 'asthma hound' chihuahua named Ren Hoek, and a cat named Stimpson J. Cat.
The creator of the show is John Kricfalusi. John K. did also Ren's voice. After a while John K. left and Billy West took over the voice on an interim basis until a new person could be found (he first did Stimpy's voice). This person(s) became The Spumco Players.
The show's attraction is its shameless and gross physical humor, often consisting of nose-picking and farts (though there's a lot more to it than that)

The Knife - We Share Our Mother’s Health

The Knife is Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer Andersson. They are based in Stockholm, Sweden and have made music together since 1999, released on their own label Rabid Records.
The video is animated by Motomichi Nakamura and has already been selected for the Onedotzero festival in London, ICA June 2-11. The Knife don’t do anything by half, and they don’t do anything twice. Compromise is the enemy, repetition a cop-out.
